RingOut will give its bells a samba shake this Wednesday with (other) Latino/a people of NYC who want the GOP out! RingOut will encircle the front of the famous Latin nightclub Copacabana where the GOP plans a Coca-cola-sponsored "Hispanic event." RingOut will distribute free small liberty bells to participants. Percussionists with Latin bells and Coke-can shakers, including from NY Samba, are planning to attend. As always, RingOut will RING rather than confront: this will be a peaceful event.
The RingOut will be held from 9:30-11:30 PM. Wednesday, Sept. 1 (the "Hispanic event" runs from 10 PM to 2 AM) on W. 34th St. between 11th and 12th Avenues (a/k/a West St. or the West Side Highway)..
RingOut is a new grassroots non-profit dedicated to ringing bells in large-scale ringing events. It wants to "ring out the old, ring in the new; ring out the false, ring in the true." RingOut created the celebrated "World Trade Center/Ground Zero Observance" August 28 with the premiere of a Pauline Oliveros composition played by thousands of bell-ringing participants. RingOut also participates with other groups, including Times Up!, Greene Dragon, Billionaires for Bush, and anti-globalization groups. For more information, please go to our website.

End the War! Abolish Nukes!
Assemble on 1st Ave above 50th Street, 11am, March by the United Nations, Rally in Central Park, Heckscher Ballfields, 2pm,

- Sixty years ago, the U.S. dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, instantly killing and wounding hundreds of thousands of people and beginning the nuclear arms race. In May, world leaders, mayors and citizens from around the world will converge on the United Nations to decide the fate of the endangered Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The nuclear weapons states, led by the U.S., are hypocritically accusing other nations of seeking nuclear arms while ignoring their own disarmament obligations. The Bush administration lied when it went to war in Iraq by claiming Saddam Hussein had “weapons of mass destruction.” And as this war rages on, with mounting casualties on all sides, a country in ruins, and escalating costs here at home, Washington is turning its sights on Iran and North Korea, seeking again to inflame public fears of a new nuclear threat. At the same time, the U.S. is modernizing its nuclear arsenal and expanding the role of nuclear weapons in its “national security” policy.
